What does it mean to be “saved”?  Salvation can mean many things in the scripture.  There can be physical salvation (i.e., saved from sickness, death or even an enemy) and spiritual salvation (i.e., being saved from eternal separation from God).  For the purpose of this question we will refer to spiritual salvation.

You may have heard that there are many ways to get to God or that there are many paths to heaven but that is simply not true. In fact Jesus Christ Himself said:

  • “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”
    – Jesus Christ (John 14:6)

Many of the world’s religions are simply man trying to get to God by their efforts or good deeds. At SBC we believe the Bible teaches that Mankind is separated from God and is incapable of doing good works to gain eternal life salvation.  However, we believe that God has made a way to gain eternal life salvation through His Son Jesus Christ.  This is the story of the Bible:  How the perfect righteous God brings sinful man back to Himself using His Son Jesus Christ.

So how do you get saved? (Eternal Life Salvation)

Salvation comes by believing in Jesus Christ for eternal life. Jesus, the Son of God, who died and rose again paying for sin and conquering death gives eternal life to all who believe in Him. Eternal life begins the moment one believes in Christ.

1 John 5:13 assures us that we can know we have eternal life.

  • “As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up; so that whoever believes will in Him have eternal life. For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.”
    – John 3:14-16
  • “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.”
    – John 5:24
  • “For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures”
    – 1 Corinthians 15:3-4
  • “For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.”
    – Ephesians 2:8-9
  • “and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world.”
    – 1 John 2:2
  • “These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life.”
    – 1 John 5:13
