A native of Meridian, Mississippi, J.B. attended Delta State University earning a B.S.E. and an M.A. in Education. From 1973 to 1980, J.B. was on the coaching staff at Mississippi State. He left Mississippi State in 1981 to attend Dallas Theological Seminary (DTS) earning a Masters in Theology. During his time at DTS, J.B. served as assistant pastor at Faith Covenant Church in Borger, Texas. After graduating from DTS in 1985, he accepted the offer to become the first full time pastor at Countryside Baptist Church in Stillwater where he served for 27 years.
In September of 2012 JB and a number of families started Stillwater Bible Church with the emphasis on Bible teaching with a grace message of salvation. SBC has rapidly expanded with many ministries focused on expository teaching, evangelism, and discipleship.
Over the course of JB’s 40 years in ministry he has written several Bible studies including: 2:2 Discipleship Training, 4:12 Foundations, Biblical Finances, and New Testament Survey. He also established two Bible Institutes where people could take courses to further their understanding of God and His Word. When he is not teaching on Sundays, you’ll find J.B. reading, studying the Bible, preparing messages, giving biblical counsel, exercising, spending time with his family, and of course, teaching small group Bible studies throughout the week.
Less than a year after moving to Stillwater, he married his wife, Jean, who received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Mississippi College. An RN since the late ’70s, Jean retired from Stillwater Medical Center’s infusion clinic in the Fall of 2015. Together, the couple has served in Stillwater since 1986. They have two daughters, Katherine Williams (married to Ryan Williams), and Sarah Davenport (married to Trevor Davenport), and five grandchildren Riley Grace Williams, Cole Williams, Peyton Williams, Karsten Davenport, and Brooks Davenport. The Bonds enjoy spending time with friends and families of the church and relaxing at home.
